A baby opossum taken in over the weekend at the Wildlife Center of Virginia is the center's 55,000th patient.
The animal was part of a litter of 13 orphaned opossums found near their mothers body Saturday.
It was also the busiest day of the year for the center, as it too in 28 animals in total.
Center officials say all of their work is thanks to donations from the public.
Center Director Ed Clark says, "Whether it's the common little animal like the opossum or the 40 bald eagles that came in last year, it's all paid for by the generosity and interest of people who care about wildlife and share our love for nature and the environment."
The Wildlife Center has been in operation for 27 years.
