Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell will spend the rest of September raising awareness about Internet safety.
The month-long campaign is known as "Project SafetyNet Virginia" kicks off Thursday.
The effort will feature three major components including competitions for Virginia students in sixth to 12th grade to create a TV Internet safety ad to air throughout Virginia next year.
Another component will be an unveiling of a book called "Faux Paw's Adventures in the Internet" for third graders to teach them online safety tips.
The third component involves members of the Attorney General's Computer Crime Section traveling across the state giving safety presentations to student, teachers and parents.
McDonnell says, "We have passed a number of new laws that are making a positive difference in out fight against those who target children online. However, the number one step step we can take in protecting Virginia's children remains making sure they know how to stay safe, and what to look out for when they re on the Internet."
McDonnell is also declaring September Internet Safety Month.
