Bike Virginia is expected to bring a nice economic boost in revenue to the city of Staunton.

Although Bike Virginia is in its 23rd year, this is the first year the riders have to been to Staunton.

While a majority of the bikers are staying in lodging throughout the city, 700 cyclists will camp at a local middle school.

Many restaurants and stores in downtown Staunton are extending their hours and even staying open Sunday to accommodate the bikers.

Staunton Downtown Development Director Julie Markowitz says, "There will be about 1,300 of them dining here, staying in our hotels, shopping and enjoying our area. And, we are just delighted to have them."

The riders will be traveling around Staunton and Augusta County, cycling approximately 50 miles each day.

On Monday, Bike Virginia will travel to Harrisonburg and then return to Staunton Wednesday for a finish line celebration.

Events like this throughout the year can bring millions of dollars to the area.
