A Nobel Peace prize winner is coming to Harrisonburg, and city officials are making sure they are ready.

On Tuesday night, the city council passed a resolution to honor Desmond Tutu who will be visiting the city next week.

Archbishop Tutu, of South Africa, led a crusade in support of justice and racial conciliation and was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 1984.

Tutu has also held several positions in teaching and theological work in southern Africa. Harrisonburg Mayor Rodney Eagle says Tutu's visit will give The Friendly City some notoriety.

"All of the fine work that he's done in the past, and today's age and the way we live today, I think it's even more important that someone of that statute comes and visits us in Harrisonburg," says Eagle.

Tutu will will receive the 2007 Ghandi Global Nonviolence award at JMU next Friday.
