An international figure for peace will visit James Madison University on Friday.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu will receive the Mahatma Gandhi Global Nonviolence Award from the JMU Gandhi Center.
Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.
He was active in the Anti-Apartheid Movement in his native South Africa.
JMU spokesperson Don Egle says, "The agenda for the ceremony that evening will include the conferring of the actual award, conferring of an honorary doctorate from JMU, as well as Archbishop Tutu's presentation entitled 'Goodness Is Powerful'."
Doors to the JMU Convocation Center open Friday at 5 p.m.
The free program begins at 7 p.m. and latecomers will not be admitted.
