A carnival in Front Royal turned dangerous Thursday night when several fireworks malfunctioned.

The fireworks exploded in their firing tubes, sending plastic and wood shrapnel in all directions. One man lighting the fireworks got third-degree burns on his stomach.

Two other people had injuries.

Warren County Fire and Rescue is investigating. The company that was in charge of the fireworks is called Schaffer Pyrotechnics.

This is the second fireworks mishap in the northern Shenandoah Valley this year.

There were reports of two injuries during the fireworks show at the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester April 30.

Investigators say the fireworks launched sideways into a crowd of people. A child and a woman were treated for burns.

The company that did that fireworks show was Fireworks Productions Inc.
