Ron...The reason why they kill the birds is because idiots train them to fight. they can't live a normal life after that. They should be put down way more humane than that though. Makes me sick. My mother in law has lots of chickens and roosters on her land as pets. she collects the eggs. They all live together and do not fight. So it's BS that it's in their blood.

Wow...I'm not proud at all to live in this area. do you people not know how much pain these birds go through? People that get pleasure out of hurting animals are sick in the head and need help. I think people that enjoy cockfighting need to be shot. hunting as well. You all need to know how it feels to be in that kind of pain. Animals are living things. They feel pain and grief.

(continued) A clear case of the punishment not fitting the crime. In addition, the passage of a felony bill in Virginia will have a severe economic impact in the Commonwealth. Many feedstores are already suffering from the reduction in the number of fowl being fed and cared for by gamefowl fanciers. Also, those not involved in fighting their birds will probably be harassed by so-called humane investigators simply because they keep gamefowl with combs and spurs trimmed. This is a requirement of the standard for showing American and Old English gamefowl, but my bet is that many will be persecuted by over zealous animal rights nuts. By the way, the first thing that happens when a club is raided is that the Humane Society of the United States immediately kills all fowl. (This thankfully did not happen at Boxwood). However at club in TN in 2006 over 340 fowl were stuffed into 50 gallon drums and suffocated with a hose run from a truck exhaust. Yes, it took them a long time to die!

Please tell me the defference in a man taking his son to a cock fight ,or a man taking his son deer hunting ,give your son a gun and teach him to KILL a deer with a high powerd riffle ,or fight a dang rooster .

Many good people are criminals. Most people have to pay for their mistakes while others have enough power and money to get out of theirs. Criminals are human too. Unfortunately, power, money, and greed can corrupt even the best people.
Persons in power have no right incarcerating others who have made the same or less mistakes than they. Having a badge or power should not give anyone the right to try to be above the law and hide behind their occupation.

Good men have fought chickens, names include George, Abe, and Thomas. They never took bribes from anyone! I guess good people are criminals?

I think everyone is missing the hidden message in this story! I believe the reason this investigation is even still going on is because of the "Public Official" that is involved. It is observed that we vote a person into an office and they abuse their authority like this to "protect" the cock fighters from law enforcement.

I’m confused. I understand why some of you are so upset about our government spending tax dollars on this specific investigation, and not on others that are obviously more serious. However, as a resident of Shenandoah, I cannot say that I like this happening in “my backyard.” As far as this being a part of some people’s “livelihood,” obviously these certain people need to find a better source for income. I’m not trying to sound heartless to my fellow citizens of Page County; my prayers go out to the family of Mr. Taylor. BUT, when you break the law, there need to be consequences, if nothing else, then to set an example to show that this will not be tolerated in the future!

I agree that this so-called sport is bad. However, we must also put things in perspective. The same people who decry this as horrible have no problem with the thousands of abortions that go on everyday. We as a people are entrusted with the care and welfare of all things God gave us. You may say a woman has the right to choose what goes on with her body. Then that maxim must be applied to everything. An owner of a chicken then has the right to choose what happens to it. Do not dismiss me as an extremist, I am merely pointing out that if all life is sacred, then ALL life is.
