Fishing season in the Valley is just getting started and one group is trying make it even more popular. The Augusta County Bass Jon's put on its first fishing expo.
Members of the group realized a need for the specialized expo in the area after going to similar events across the state. The group had been trying to do the expo for the past two years, but finding the right location in the Valley was hard.
Attendance was better than expected for the event, nearly 100 fishermen and women taking in lessons and trying to find the right pole.
Bass Jon's President Doug Fitzgerald called the show a success.
"The last month, my phone's been ringing off the hook, can I have a booth, does Augusta County have a booth," he said. "I was kind of concerned because it was the first time. You don't know how it's going to turn out. Being the first time, yeah, a hundred people at the first Augusta County Fishing Expo, I think is awesome."
Riding on today's success, he plan is to grow the event in the future and make the expo one of the biggest in the state.
