VERONA -- Dozens of people have said they have been duped by a paving scam that has made its way to the Valley.
The owner of BJ and Sons pavement has been brought up on new charges and the people who have said he scammed them, want their money back.
People have said Stanley Joe Belcher and his company has gone under many different names and has been crooked for a number of years. They have also said his family's company has made the rounds to three different states.
"You know you just kind of get angry and it's like..I don't get it, why....I'm so stupid and naive and I couldn't believe somebody would be that crooked," said scam victim Lisa Auwarter.
She is just one of many that have said she has been scammed by BJ & Sons Paving. She said the owner went around her neighborhood handing out fliers.
"He came into my home. He was a Christian sounding man. And he even came into the house when my mom was there and played off my mom so that my mom actually thought he grew up with relatives of ours," said Auwarter.
She signed a contract with Belcher in March 2012 and wanted the company re-pave her driveway. Auwarter paid a $550 deposit. She said that's when she started hearing excuses.
"It was too wet, too dry. The paving company couldn't get the asphalt. He even stated that his wife had a stent placed in her heart," said Auwarter.
The unfinished driveway is still destroyed and some of it is filled with dirt. Workers even cut into the street.
Auwarter's neighbor, who asked not to reveal her name, had a similar contract with Belcher. She said things got even worse.
"He harassed my family members..made phone calls you know...Asking if we were threatening to his son or any of this. Just off the wall stories," said the neighbor.
The neighbor said Belcher left a pile of asphalt in her driveway for four months and did nothing. Both women took Belcher to court last October .
"I felt very angry. Because he just kind of laughed in our faces when we went to court. And had said the whole time prior to court, this is funny to me, nothing is gonna happen," said the neighbor.
All of the victims of this scam have not received any of their money back. The company has had several different names: Stanley Joe Belcher, BJ Paving, BJ and Sons Paving, and BJ Stanley.
Several numbers were given, to try and reach Mr. Blecher. They were disconnected or taken to a voice mail. If you are having any scams that needs eyes and ears.
