HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- Former President Bill Clinton will be speaking at JMU Tuesday morning with Democrat candidate Terry McAuliffe.
The event is being held at JMU's Festival Center.
The doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the event starts at 10:30.
The event is planned and controlled by volunteers from McAuliffe's campaign.
JMU is only being used as a venue; with very little campus involvement and most students are unaware of what's happening.
Organizers expect at least 1,000 people to attend even though the campaign didn't heavily advertise to students. No signs were hung up and no campus-wide e-mail was sent out, most didn't even know about it.
"I honestly found out through Facebook and people posting about it who were really excited about it. One of my friends is in SGA and she knew that way. So as long as you are involved in certain organizations you would know, but if I didn't know them I would have no idea he was coming." said Courtney Varela, a JMU senior.
Most students won't notice a big change unless they're in the Festival Center; all student parking will remain unaffected.
Those attending the event will park in the Convocation Center lot and shuttles will be taking them the rest of the way.
Varela believes that students will still come even if they don't know much about it, "I think there will be, I just don't know if it will be the majority."
Varela said certain groups have been informed but, "Other people have no idea, because I know some of my friends had no idea Bill Clinton was coming and others are very excited."
Harrisonburg Police officers said there will be no road closures and the volunteers will direct traffic.
