It was hard to believe that snow was a major concern on Wednesday, after a few weeks of what seemed like spring weather. But actually the for chance ice on the roads on Thursday morning poses more of a danger for drivers than the flurries.
The Virginia Department of Transportation said things are going smoothly, and that's to do with the type of snow we had earlier.
"That's more of a slushy rain, so it will be on the grasses, it will lay on the trees. But it doesn't give us a lot of problems on the roadways. That's a good thing," said Don Komara with VDOT Residency Maintenance.
But, later on Wednesday night, things could get more dangerous.
Josh Knight had been keeping up with these weather patterns long before they touched down Wednesday morning. He predicted icy roads Thursday morning.
"Tomorrow morning is really going to be it. Because tonight, we definitely drop down below freezing, so anything that's wet is likely going to be icy in the morning," said meteorologist Knight.
And early morning ice can always mean black ice: which is a problem that you need to be prepared for.
"The worst part about it is that it looks safe out there. So with it looking safe, they're more likely to drive too fast and then they may end up in a bad situation," said Komara.
But VDOT said they will have plenty of salt trucks out there to help prevent car wrecks.
"We'll have people deployed tonight to catch those icy spots and the curves and bridges and that. I wold tell people if they're going to travel to do it early in the evening than later at night."
