One of the three bald eagles that was housed in Waynesboro has returned to the Virginia Wildlife Center after its release on Wednesday.
Eagle NX was brought back after two failed attempts to fly.
Amanda Nicholson, the Director of Outreach at the center, said it wasn't that she couldn't fly, but that the elements were not in her favor at the time.
“She was flying pretty well, but lost altitude and wasn't able to sustain her flight to make it into a tree. We are guessing there was a number of factors that came – she was fitted with a transmitter which may have been more difficult for her and it was so hot,” said Nicholson.
“In a normal circumstance we would have allowed her to stay there for a while, but it was such a large scale event and there were so many people around we opted that capturing her was going to be a little bit safer.”
Nichols says they will monitor the eagle over the weekend at the Wildlife Center before she is released again.
But so far, Nichols says she seems to be just fine.
