Technology can be helpful, but it's also causing problems in teen dating.
Some Rockingham county families are taking steps to protect their children.
Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said they're teaching parents and teenagers about dating abuse.
He said they're also telling them about the dangers of releasing too much information on the web or among friends.
He said this is the main problem in our area and it's very common among kids in middle school.
"The most common would be regarding maybe a picture that at one point you might think is being sent among a friend or a boyfriend whatever it might be so subsequently that photo, that image that video is being shared with others," Hutcheson said.
He said it's crucial to have parents and teens learning about how to keep safe.
