With the new year , the rule of "no dogs allowed" is now in full effect at the Harrisonburg Farmers Market.
The ban comes after market organizers held a vote about whether the dogs should be allowed. The decision was made to ensure no dogs would be allowed near the food people are buying.
Organizers say they've been informing as many people as they can to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Despite some initial complaints they don't expect any problems from the ban.
"I'm sure it will be a little more of a challenge in the Summer," said market manager Josie Showalter. "It is on my agenda to get some bigger signs and have them posted where they're a little more visible. One of the beauties of this market is we have so many really committed customers and the committed consistent customers already know."
Despite the ban, service dogs under the Americans with Disabilities Act will continue to be allowed.
