Fatal Plane Crash in Middlesex County

MIDDLESEX, VA. Emergency Officials in Middlesex County, Virginia have confirmed there was a plane crash in the county Sunday.The county's emergency coordinator, Mark Nugent, confirmed the two-seater 1968 Cessna plane went down around 4:43 p.m. Sunday at 52 Lockleys Creek Road in Middlesex County.

Fire and EMS crews were called to the scene.

The pilot was killed. A passerby helped a passenger from the plane. The passenger has critical injuries and has been flown to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital for treatment.

State police are leading the investigation, along with the Middlesex County Sheriff's Office. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety board have been notified.
