HARRISONBURG- The Harrisonburg Fire Department is warning you to watch out for first responders at accident scenes.
Crews say a firefighter almost got hit by a truck early Monday morning while responding to a crash on I-81 in Harrisonburg.
Wanda Willis is in charge of the safety coalition for the fire department. She says this isn't the first time a first responder has been close to getting injured on the scene of an accident.
Willis says these firefighters are trying to keep you safe, so you should try to keep them safe too.
"Slow down and pay attention and stay off your cell phones," said Willis. "You know it's not worth that one second that you may not have your eyes on the road and you go through those lights and hurt somebody, or yourself."
Willis says this incident Monday is now under review. She says it really shook up the first responder who almost got hit.
Now their department will look at the situation and find ways to keep crews safer.
