Firefighters Push Fire Prevention

WAYNESBORO -- Firefighters in Waynesboro wrapped up Fire Prevention Week with one final push, hosting an open house.

Firefighters helped kids practice how to stop, drop and roll. They also taught people about using smoke detectors, how to use escape ladders and tips on CPR.

It was all part of an effort to help prevent fires from starting inside homes.

"A lot of people don't know about the information and when they do have a fire, you get that panic mode," said firefighter Bob Donaldson. "But if you know what to do if there is a fire, then you can get out of your house safely. And if you can prevent the fire before it starts, that's the key thing we want to do, so people don't have fires."

Firefighters also planned to show how they get people out of wrecked cars using the "Jaws of Life." is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
