The Harrisonburg Fire Department was working overtime Wednesday night, keeping homeowners safe.
Members of the fire department hand delivered CiCI's pizza's to homeowners who agreed to have their smoke alarm checked.
Anyone who had a defective unit either received a new battery or a new smoke alarm.
In exchange, people also got a free one-topping large pizza.
The department sponsors the event every year.
Firefighters say a working smoke alarm could help save your life in the event of a fire.
Homeowners say they appreciated what firefighters did.
"It was really easy and simple. She came in and she was very friendly. The check took no time at all and she gave us our pizza and we're very happy," said Lee Purnhagen.
Firefighters delivered pizzas well past 8 p.m.
They delivered 511 pizzas. That's slightly more than last year.
