AUGUSTA COUNTY -- Wednesday was the first day of the murder trial of Jerad Ross. The case started in May 2012 when police say Ross shot Melvin Jordan four times.
In his opening remarks, the Commonwealths attorney said murder victim Jordan was shot four times and bullets shattered his leg. He believes a blood clot killed Jordan six months later.
The jury heard first from the owner of the Skyline Motel, where the entire incident happened. Jordan lived at the hotel and did odd jobs for the motel.
The owner testified Jordan said, "I don't want to die," after being shot four times.
The jury heard 911 calls from an eye-witness just after the shooting.
As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the trial was still happening. Stay clicked to WHSV.com for updates as they happen.
