HARRISONBURG -- With Mother's Day on Sunday, many people are looking to buy flowers. Local flower shop workers have seen a significant increase in sales the past few days.

Workers at Blakemore's Flowers have seen close to 200 orders for this weekend. That's almost 10 times the amount of business of a normal weekend. Sales are almost equal to what they were around Valentine's Day.

Roses and tulips are the most popular flowers for Mother's Day.

Abby Long, the owner of Blakemore's Flowers, thinks that flowers are a perfect gift for mothers.

"It's just synonymous with Mother's Day because its almost summer and everything's blooming outside and I think it's a really simple and sweet way to show your mom that you really care about them," said Long.

On the weekend of Mother's Day, Blakemore's Flowers doesn't take wedding orders. Workers are just too busy with other orders to handle the extra business that a wedding brings.
