VERONA, Va -- The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank now has 12,000 pounds of turkeys just in time for Thanksgiving, all thanks to one generous donation.
The parent company of Martin's, Giant Foods, donated the turkeys that were unloaded on Tuesday. The turkeys will go into the freezer and then will be divided up between surrounding food pantries.
One neighbor said she is excited to serve turkeys to the hungry families that come to her pantry every Thursday.
"I'm sure that they would just eat up a storm, including the bones. I think it would be great, cause most of them have children. So, what would be greater than a turkey on Thanksgiving day?" said Helen Via, a worker at Crimora United Methodist Church Pantry.
Via said next Thursday, they hope to feed almost 100 people.
