HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Friends and family of veterans had the chance to learn more about helping soldiers after they return from war.
A workshop at Eastern Mennonite University on September 12th examined effects of trauma on the body and on the brain.
A chaplain and veteran of the afghanistan conflict also spoke about healing wounds of war.
Elaine Zook Barge, the Director of the STAR program, said veterans move through different stages as they prepare for deployment and return.
Barge said people who attend the workshop will leave with an action plan and an idea of how they can help.
"When people become more informed, both about what might be behind some of the behaviors that they're seeing and also have some ideas of even a few tools of what they can do to help it gives them more confidence to enter into the relationship that they're working with," said Barge.
