A missing teen case from Pennsylvania ends in D.C. A Grottoes man is at the center of it all.
That man's name is Ashley Ryan Hareford. Police say he met up with a 13-year-old Pennsylvania girl in Washington, D.C..
She's back home, but Hareford is still in the nation's capitol, not sightseeing, but seeing the inside of a jail cell.
Ashley Ryan Hareford has "I Love You Baby" as his cover photo on Facebook. Police say his love of underage girls has him locked up.
"It surprised me," said Hareford's former neighbor, Ronald Wolverton.
"Sense of judgment might have been a little slow, then he would get with people he shouldn't have been with."
Police say Hareford met up with 13-year-old Savanna Marie MacMullet. Police say the pair met online, then face to face and hopped on a bus to Washington, D.C.
Wolverton said, "He had a lot more challenges that what most people have."
Friends say those challenges continued when the family moved. They say Hareford's mom moved out of their apartment a couple of weeks ago. The community newsletter for December is still on the door.
"Sometimes he gets kinda weird," said Susan Morris, a family friend.
She's known Hareford for two years. She said Hareford doesn't have the greatest relationship with his family.
His mom had to get on him about taking showers and stuff like that and he wouldn't do it," said Morris.
Morris said Hareford would leave town after getting into arguments with his mom.
"He'll go to Oregon or like Washington State or Montana."
Police in Pennsylvania say Hareford will be sent to that state once a hearing has been set.
He faces a corruption of minor charge and could possibly face more charges.
