Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV)-- We now know how many 911 calls the Harrisonburg Rockingham Emergency Communications center took in 2013.
According to the numbers, they had more calls resulting in dispatch of emergency services than in 2012, that is an increase of more than a thousand dispatches.
Jim Junkins with the ECC said that is because different types of incidents like fires and crashes may require more agencies to respond.
The average call processing time by the ECC has also saw an increase.
Junkins said the processing times can be due to several factors .
"Such as if we have to do what's called an Emergency medical dispatch and that's when we give pre-arrival instructions for somebody that may have a life threatening medical emergency and we may have to start in some of those critical things to be doing before we can get all the detailed information for location out of the way," said Jim Junkins, who is the Director of the HRECC.
The ECC currently has 38 employees and eight part-time employees on staff.
