Call the Harrisonburg Fire Department at 540-432-7703
HARRISONBURG -- The Harrisonburg Fire Department is offering free Stovetop Firestops for people who live in the city and in Rockingham County.
This is coming from a grant it received from FEMA. The Stovetop Firestops are placed above the stove under the hood. If there is a fire, the wick will light and the extinguisher will cover the fire. The fire department only has about 1,500 left and they will be given out on a first come first served basis.
"We feel like these are important ways to keep your home safe. In Harrisonburg, Rockingham County and around the United States, the number one cause of fires in the home is the kitchen," said Lt. Wanda Willis.
Willis said since the grant was given, eight fires were stopped in Harrisonburg. If you would like a Stovetop Firestop, call the Harrisonburg Fire Department at 540-432-7703. The department will come and install it for you for free.
