Jacob Faircloth and Christian Reinertson have both been charged with a hate crime.
HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The Harrisonburg Police Department arrested two men in connection to a hate crime committed Saturday morning.
Christian Dane Reinertson, 20 of Harrisonburg and Jacob Devoshen Faircloth, 23, of Wise, Virginia were arrested by police.
Police responded to an assault in the 1000 block of Lois Lane on Saturday, October 12 at 2:30 a.m.
While officers were heading to the call, they were advised that the assault was reported as being racially motivated.
The victim of the assault stated that as he was leaving a house, several people began spitting at him from a deck and calling him a racial slur while throwing alcoholic beverages at him, according to police.
Police said when the victim asked the group why they were doing this, they jumped from the railing and attacked the victim.
The victim was struck in the face and while on the ground was kicked numerous times by several individuals, according to police.
Police took Reinertson into custody on October 14 and arrested Faircloth yesterday. Both men have been charged with a hate crime.
“These arrests should be credited to the cooperation from the victim and his willingness to report this unacceptable crime along with the officers’ response and follow-up investigation,” said Police Chief Stephen Monticelli.
Police are still investigating this case.
