The Harrisonburg City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a tax exemption for solar energy.
Members say the primary issue on this is the Eastern Mennonite University solar project.
Groups will now be exempt from rising property taxes that would usually come with adding solar panels to their property for 20 years.
They say they hope this encourages the university and others in the city to look into solar energy.
