APPOMATTOX, Va. (AP) -- A hearing is set Friday for a man charged with killing eight people at his Appomattox home.

Appomattox County Commonwealth's Attorney Darrel Puckett declined to comment on the purpose of the hearing.

Christopher Speight's attorney, Doug Wham (WAHM), did not immediately return a telephone message.

A trial planned last June was postponed because attorneys were still waiting for mental health evaluations of Speight. A new trial date hasn't been set.

Speight is charged with attempted capital murder of a state police helicopter pilot and three counts of capital murder. He was arrested in January 2010 after an overnight manhunt near the home he shared with his sister, her husband and their two children. Those family members, two neighbors, their teenage daughter and a teenage boy were killed in the shootings.
