HARRISONBURG -- Students at Harrisonburg High School will get the opportunity to explore their creativity with a fine arts academy launching this fall.
The academy would focus on six different areas of the arts, including: dance, drama and visual arts. The emphasis on the program is collaboration.
The academy's director wants students to be well-rounded.
“We believe that students will have the opportunity to really explore their creative, improvisational thought process and focus on things from the lens of the artist, allow their passion for the arts and their intensity for the arts help them be the best learners and the best artists that they can be,” said J.R. Snow, the coordinator of fine arts at the high school.
Students must apply for the program. It will be open to 9th and 10th grade students.
The academy is funded by Harrisonburg City Schools. The academy director plans to hire someone to fill a full-time position to help launch the program.
