This week marks six months since a hiker went missing on Shenandoah mountain in Augusta County.

Robert Fitzgerald was last seen on Nov. 12. He lost his cell phone while hiking and went back to find it, but never made it back.

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office conducted several searches. Friends and strangers are still looking for Fitzgerald.

Neighbor Doctor Alan White who helped with some of the searches said finding Fitzgerald will help bring closure.

Just a couple weeks back, searchers found some bone fragments and a shoe near where Fitzgerald went missing. However, tests showed the bones were from an animal.

White said he doesn't expect the Augusta County Sheriff's office to keep searching with no additional leads. However,he said neighbors will continue searching.

"We pretty much expect that he is passed but we still like to find him to put a closure to this mystery and for his mother's sake as well," said White.

He said he is not surprised Fitzgerald has not been found because of the area is wide and steep.

He said he plans to go search again in two weeks.
