Job Fair at University to Help Graduating Seniors in the Job Search

The current economy isn't the best time for college seniors to look for jobs, but Several Eastern Mennonite University students are learning unique skills to help them overcome current statistics and land a job.

Tim Heishman is like any other college senior getting ready to graduate; he's starting to look for jobs.

The EMU student took advantage of a special program on campus Wednesday to help him find one.

“I wanted to get my resume looked at. Make sure it was as clear as possible. Turns out it was a good idea to come. It is a lot clearer now, a lot more coherent,” said Heishman

The resume review is part of EMU's Career and Service Day.

Senior Carrie Schlabach, a senior who wants to be a nurse, said it's good for students to get as much help as they can in this economy.

“Most people are like nursing, nursing, you'll be fine getting a job. But it's stressful for us too, because it's not as easy to get a job as it used to be,” said Schlabach.

Part of the goal is to get students face to face with their potential employers: which many got to do Wednesday. Several employers, both local and national ones, set up to help students figure out what they want to do after school.

And it's not just employers who came to EMU, but those looking for service workers also attended the event.

“One of the interesting things about our students is that a number of them plan to do voluntary service term after college. It's neat they have they can explore that as well as employment,” said Jennifer Litwiller, Director of Career Services at EMU.

Despite some challenges with the economy, many students were positive about their chances of getting a job after school.
