Update: Arrest Made for Harrisonburg Mobile Meth Lab

HARRISONBURG -- Harrisonburg Police have arrested William D. Landes Junior for the mobile meth lab found on Sunday.

Landes faces one count of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Police busted the meth lab in a car off Route 33 on Sunday.

Law enforcement and firefighters descended on a car on North Carlton street at Oakland street today, they said it appeared to be a meth lab.

Most people driving along Route 33 realized that police had blocked off the street.

One man said he's not shocked that a possible meth lab was discovered in the area.

At about 5:30 PM sunday afternoon Jon Roberts, the assistant manager with Royal Mart said he saw some unusual behavior across the street.

"There was a gentleman that was stripped down basically to nothing but his boxer shorts. He had a boxer shorts and they had a fire hose over there spraying him down, he didn't look like he was in any pain or anything, but they were obviously trying to get something off of him," said Roberts.

We had responded to a call for service out here for possible explosions or chemical spill, involving just that," said Ron Howard with the Harrisonburg Police Department.

That's when the Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) and the fire department blocked off the street calling it a "chemical hazmat situation".

A GMC Jimmy is now the center of the investigation.

The RUSH Drug Task force believes this car had components inside of it consistent with that of a meth lab.

They found things like brake fluid, drain openers, iodized salt and tubes.

"I will say the area here is, secured contained, there is no harm as far as anybody being able to come back out," said Howard.

The road was cleared at approximately 8:00 PM, a few hours following the phone call concerning the possible explosion.

"There's a lot of good people in this neighborhood. There's also a lot of people that come and go and you just kind of worry about," said Roberts, who has lived in the area for nineteen years.

The RUSH Drug Task force is now leading the investigation into what appears to be a mobile meth lab.

The driver of the vehicle has not been identified.
Law enforcement says it discovered a suspected meth lab in an SUV in Harrisonburg. Hazmat crews closed down the area Sunday evening near Route 33, N. Carlton St. and Oakland St.
