A local library is working hard to make it easier to check out e-books, but they need the community's help.
Massanuten Regional Library is getting ready to start a new e-book program, and they are hoping donations will let them have as many books possible available at the launch.
Starting in September, the library will allow members to check out e-books either at the library or from the convenience of their own homes.
The e-books, which are digital copies of traditional books, can be read on e-readers like Amazon's Kindle or the Nook. These electronic books can also be read on a normal computer.
Checking out the books will work just like checking out a physical book. You'll be able to read the books for two weeks, and after that time, you'll need to renew the e-book if you haven't finished it yet.
The library started the fundraiser after many Valley residents requested a way to check out the e-books.
Library Director Lois Jones says this program is a way for the library to keep up with the times.
""Everything is internet, it's web-based, you know everything that we search for, a lot of times it's on the internet, it's available, it's easily accessible, and so we want to add this along with what we already have, the traditional books," said Jones.
The library has already raised the $5,000 needed to buy the first set of e-books, but Jones says she hopes the library raises more money to increase the selection of electronic books.
