Longtime Valley Morning Jock Retires

The Valley said good-bye to a radio legend Thusday morning when Dusty Rhodes signed off for the final time on 104.3 Country WKCY.

"Good morning... KCY!"

That's the sound radio listeners in the Valley have woken up to on 104.3 for 23 years. Now, longtime morning DJ, Dusty Rhodes, has decided to put down his headphones for good.

"Oh boy, I'll tell ya. It's unbelievable this is my last day at KCY, my last day in radio. It's bittersweet," Rhodes said.

As Dusty shared some laughs, chatted with his loyal listeners and spoke with former colleaques from his 40 year radio career on his final show, he remembered all the great times he had. There's one thing about WKCY he will miss the most.

"The work we did in the community. The fundraising, we did a lot of food drives, coat drives, blood drives," Rhodes said.

For the past three years, Dan Joyce has been Dusty's sidekick. He says the station will feel lonely without Dusty.

"Gonna be odd to come in, and be here by myself. We've solved the world's problems in the studio when the mics are off, so I don't have a partner in crime anymore," Joyce said.

Dusty says he will still be around, working with Saint Jude, doing voice over work and running his private DJ business. He says he won't miss waking up at 3 AM, but he will always remember his mornings on WKCY.

"I want to say thank you to everyone. To the listeners, to our sponsors, to everyone I've met. Thank you so very much," Dusty said.
