During National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, students at Mary Baldwin College have been challenged to uncover often invisible problems in the community.

However, MBC is not only educating students about the issue. It is helping them find a solution.

The school is hosting discussions on the concerns and causes of hunger and homelessness and asking students to be the solution by giving and volunteering.

Several students attended a seminar Wednesday where they heard from members of Americorps and the Peace Corps who challenged them to dedicate a couple years after their time at college to volunteering either at home or in another country.

They encouraged students to help end hunger and homelessness with their efforts and what they learn.

"A solution that you see in Kathmandu school system might be able to help a school system in Richmond or vice versa. Looking at solutions you found in the Staunton community, how might that help people in Panama and how can we share those solutions," asks Robyn Stegman, who volunteered for several years with Americorps.

Students will also be solidifying what they learned in the seminar on Friday when many will spend the day volunteering in the local community.
