WAYNESBORO -- Staff members at Fishburne Military School said they are in the middle of handling what they call a good problem.

In the past few weeks, enrollment at Fishburne has drastically increased. Currently, there are 185 cadets enrolled and that's the highest number in two decades.

Gary Morrison, the superintendent for Fishburne, attributes the rise in cadets to a program that can't be found anywhere else. The physical activity is a reason why many parents want their children to attend.

“If you don't exercise, and if you don't get off the couch and put the iPods down and the iPads down, and get out there and experience physicality, you become less effective as a human being. You'll never be as good a leader,” said Superintendent of Fishburne Military School Gary Morrison.

The increase in enrollment also means some creative solutions when it comes to living spaces. Former rooms turned into office have been fixed up and made livable. Some of the staff have been moved to other locations on campus

Fishburne's superintendent said this is a unique situation for the school because private school enrollment is down across the state.

Morrison acknowledges that Fishburne's tuition is expensive, but he said parents realize they have one chance to give their child the Fishburne experience.
