ABC News numbers show president Obama picked up 70 percent of the Latino vote while Mitt Romney took 27 percent.

Compared to 2008, president Obama won 67 percent of the vote, while John McCain picked up 31 percent.

Salvador Romero is glad to see president Obama will remain in the white house.

"I was very excited very happy," Romero said.

He said he voted for Obama because members of his campaign approached him.

According to Romero, a member of the White House came to speak to Latinos in the community.

"He really made an effort through his campaign to reach out to me personally," Romero said.

Jossimar Diaz-Castro is part of the group Latinos for Obama.

He said he knocked on many doors at Latino neighborhoods.

"Latinos were glad that folks were speaking their language Spanish or English," Diaz-Castro said.

He said it made a difference.

"They felt dignified and welcomed to the political process that was occurring, which was a good effect," he said.

Romero said republicans never reached out to him.

"The Romney campaign did not do that for me. No body ever called me. I never got anything in the mail," Romero said.

He said he also did research on Romney, but still liked Obama more.

Romero is the assistant principal at Spotswood Elementary and said education policies are key.

"President Obama is very supportive of educators and values teachers across the nation and it's really investing in schools so we can compete worldwide," Romero said.

He also said policies that affect the Latino community also matter to him.

"Immigration is a very sensitive issue for me because i know what the process is like. I know what goes through that process, the very painful, costly process of becoming legalized in this country," Romero said.
