New steps are being taken to raise awareness about sexting.
The national P.T.A. passed a resolution last night to educate both parents and students about the legal consequences of sexting.
The P.T.A. wants students to know the act is not just a violation of school rules but is considered a crime too.
Here in The Valley, local schools already have policies in place.
Robert E Lee High School Principal Mark Rowicki explains where victims in the Staunton school can go for help.
"We always refer those students and their parents to our resource officer who is a Staunton City Police Officer, and he takes the appropriate measures from that standpoint. There's a fine line between the school and law enforcement. We do our part and then we turn it over to the Staunton City Police Department to do their part," says Principle Rowicki.
The principal says programs such as the proposed resolution by the national PTA would be a welcome addition.
