U.S. Department of Interior officials are meeting to discuss the possibility of national park closures if the federal government shuts down.

A national government shutdown would have a big impact, affecting many things including national parks and forests.

According to Congressman Bob Goodlatte's office, a shutdown would lead to the temporary closure of national parks, including Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest.

A similar shutdown in 1995 left seven million visitors unable to visit national parks and that could mean fewer tourism dollars for the area.
