New details were discovered Thursday afternoon about a shooting Wednesday night in Staunton
A man is recovering after being shot in the thigh, and a neighbor said he saw the whole thing happen just a few feet away from his home.
Doug Huff, who lives on Jefferson Street, says he was sitting on his porch Wednesday night when a man walked by shouting at a group about a hundred yards away.
Seconds later, a gun was fired and the man was bleeding and on the ground.
Huff says two men were standing in the middle of Johnson Street and fired a long distance away at the victim, using only a pistol.
He said the victim was bleeding and laying between two cars when police arrived.
According to investigators, the victim is 24 year old Chandel Fitch.
The suspects are still on the loose, and police don't expect to make an arrest soon.
For Huff, seeing the shooting was a scary experience.
"I just thought they were going to argue and that was going to be the end of it. He said something about a knife, and said 'I'm not going to go down there'," Huff explained. "I didn't think there was going to be a fight. I didn't know that guy was going to pull a pistol. That's a hundred-yard shot! We could have gotten hit standing on my porch."
Fitch was taken to the hospital and was released later.
There's still unanswered questions, but police say the shooting was not random and the investigation is expected to take some time.
