Some neighbors in the Valley went grocery shopping on Sunday in preparation of the snow storm.

Karen Burruss who lives in Grottoes said she went to the grocery store in Harrisonburg, in case she can't go to the store later.

She bought bread, milk and some junk food to make it through the storm.

"We decided we go ahead and stock up and hope and pray that electricity doesn't go off and lose everything in the freezer," said Burruss.

According to Burruss, during the last winter storm she lost power for two days.

"I'm hoping it doesn't happen this time and hoping it's just two to three inches, nothing much," said Burruss.

Trina Nussbaum shopped for essential items because she lives near the store.

"We figured if we're gonna have a snow day tomorrow it would be nice to have bread," said Nussbaum.

She said she hopes there is enough snowfall for school to be cancelled.

"We're always hoping there's a snow day. My husband is a teacher so it's always nice to have him home," said Nussbaum.

Red Front Store supervisor Candice Birtchet said the store has been busier than on a normal Sunday. According to Birtchet, most people are shopping for junk food or renting movies.

Burruss said she plans to stay inside during the snow storm.

"I don't like to be out in the snow because I'm not a snow bunny," said Burruss.

In addition, she plans to avoid the roads, if possible.

"I don't go out and drive in the snow. Like I said I'm not a snow person. I don't need all this," said Burruss.

Nussbaum said she's used to driving in the snow in her truck.

"I'm from Northeast Ohio so the snow we get here is really nothing compared with what I grew up with so it doesn't stop me from doing anything or going anywhere or doing anything," said Nussbaum.

The Virginia Department of Transportation advises all drivers to use caution, especially in areas of higher elevation, bridges and overpasses.
