HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The first big brewery to come to the city is almost ready to open.
The Three Brother's Brewery is owned by three local brothers. Tyler Shifflett, the youngest brother, said it's the first big brewery in the area. The three brothers have backgrounds in biology, science and business, so they decided to come together to make beer.
Shifflett said this new brewery puts Harrisonburg on the map for beer lovers in Virginia and around the country. The brewery will add a tasting room and have a bar set up so you can taste the beer in about a month.
"It's just nice to get people, you know. We've been getting some buzz from Richmond and different people there that said it'd be nice to get a tour out, and if you come for a tour of the brewery there are also tons of great shops and restaurants that you can see," said Shifflett.
Bringing in the business to Harrisonburg is another boost to the local economy. Shifflett said that as a new brewery, it's already getting a lot of support from local businesses. The brothers are also keeping their products local by using a local coffee in one of their beers.
"And we want the local feedback, to see what they like and what they don't like. And then of course, just keeping everything local for the economy, just keeps everything at home, makes sure Harrisonburg does well and the surrounding areas. So it's definitely nice to keep everything local."
Right now, Three Brothers Brewery features four different types of beers and Shifflett said it will have different specials every season. The brewery is located on North Main Street in Harrisonburg.
