New Businesses, Construction to be Announced at Harrisonburg Renaissance Meeting

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Eight new businesses that have committed to moving downtown will be revealed. Renaissance members will also talk about new construction and renovations.

Winners of Design Excellence Awards and the Partner of the year will also be announced.

Executive Director Eddie Bumbaugh said he's looking forward to all the changes.

The new businesses are secret until Monday night's meeting, but do include a mix of retail developments.

One of the businesses will go into the former Glen's Fair Price store and another will be below the Lenhart Obenshain office on Main Street.

There will also be a new video produced for a national contest.

Harrisonburg has been entered into the running for the Great American Main Street award.

"I'm extremely excited about the future I really feel like the best is yet to come, a number of projects in the next year or so will continue the revitalization of downtown," Bumbaugh said.

As for downtown renovations, two buildings on West Bruce Street will be significantly changed.

On East Water Street, Newman and Associates also plans to build a two story building.

Monday's meeting will be at Clementine from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..
