HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The new RMH Funkhouser Women's Center is set to open in a little more than a month.
It's named after the Funkhouser family in honor of a two million dollar gift from their foundation.
The building is coming together with very specific reasons for design choices.
The team for the fundraising campaign was made up of all women, who exceeded their fundraising goal of 1.75 million dollars.
Women in focus groups also had a hand in talking about design ideas.
Teresa Boshart Yoder said this center is meant to be a place that women can go and really feel comfortable.
Women asked that there be natural light as well as aspects of nature, and five stain glass windows were also donated.
The center will have outpatient womens imaging services, such as mammography and image recovery.
"If you want to get something done, find women that are passionate about it and give them a job to do and they just go for it," said Sherrill Glanzer, Development Officer, RMH Foundation.
"We respect women for who they are, what they want and how they want it. We ask, you know, what we can do that you would like," said Teresa Boshart Yoder, Director of Women's Services.
They will have an open house on Saturday, June 15 and will receive their first patient on June 17, which is a Monday.
