One Local Program Hopes to End Bullying

Bullying is an issue that schools are dealing with now more than ever. But here in the Valley some kids are fighting it in a different way outside of the classroom.

At Brian Mayes Karate in Harrisonburg, students aren't getting pushed around anymore. They are a part of the "Bully Busting" program.

The idea is not only to help kids defeat bullies but to help the actual bullies themselves. The topic is even discussed in their regular classes.

While instructors teach the kids to avoid fights, they are also showing them ways to defend themselves if necessary.

"In the bully buster program, we teach the ABCs of bully busting. For example A would be awarness, B would be boldness, be blunt, C is walk with confidence," said owner Brian Mayes.
