Things may be looking up in Page County for teachers and school administrators who have been under a de-facto pay freeze the past four years.

The superintendent of schools has asked for a two percent pay increase from the county.

"Well, right we are going through our budget line by line to see if we can come up with money that is in the current budget. And we are also looking at probably increasing our teacher, pupil ratio at some levels to save some positions," said Page County School Superintendent Randall Thomas.

For now, it is a wait and see prospect for school employees in Page County.

I disagree with your comment about how the PCMS students run wild. The children do not run wild at PCMS. I work for the schools as a substitute, and I work almost every school day. I work mostly at PCMS, and I find hard working teachers and students. The discipline at that school is well implemented. They also offer an incentive for good behavior that has had great effect on behavior. I am a proud Panther PCMS Mom and Page County Schools Employee

Teachers deserve a raise. My wife is a teacher and I bet she puts in 12 hours a day for school. Just the other night she was up until 2 a.m. getting everything perfect for her class. And her SOL results prove what her hard work accomplishes. Not to mention they have to pay out of their pockets to take extra classes to be re-certified. The time she puts in during the school year pretty much wipes out "summer vacation" especially since she also teaches summer school. If you don't know what all goes into being a teacher, try doing it yourself and see if it's worth the pay (or what little you get).

By fancy schools, you just mean new schools? our schools are very basic. Yes, thank god we could afford new ones that are nice. But our schools are nothing compared to fairfax county. To be honest. The old LHS held so many memories for EVERYONE that it was hard to leave. I spent my WHOLE 8th grade year on that 3rd floor and didnt have any problems learning. The teaching staff at LMS is very caring! there are teachers there that do so much for those students. they will take the shirt off their backs for the kids there
