Parents with children in Hugh K. Cassel Elementary school attended the third Augusta County public hearing to oppose their kids to be switched to Wilson Elementary school.

Tom Shepherd is one of them.

He said since the area is still developing, their kids can be moved again.

"They're already in Hugh K. Cassel, that they have to go to Wilson for a couple of years and possibly have to be sent back because of overcrowding that's my main concern," Shepherd said.

This is one of the boards' options to avoid exceeding any elementary schools' capacity.

With this option, all the elementary schools will be below their capacity. Even with the extra students from Ladd Elementary.

However, Augusta County Superintendent Chuck Bishop said if they choose this option, they don't think they will redistrict anytime soon.

"I don't think in the next two years we are gonna see a building boom in Fishersville maybe like we saw 7,8 or 10 years ago," Bishop said.

Shepherd said he doesn't like the idea.

"What I'm concerned about is the school board making a decision that is a short term solution to a long term problem that could very well turning around and biting them," Shepherd said.

The other option is leaving the students at Cassel would mean being 100 students over the capacity.

Something parents like Calvin Jordan doesn't seem to mind.

"We really prefer our kids to stay at Hugh K. Cassel," Jordan said.
