Police: Arrest Made in Fake Beard Bandit Robberies

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- Police have made an arrest in a series of robberies where the perpetrator wore a fake beard.

Newport News police say Ronald Wayne Carr was arrested Thursday night. He's been charged in connection with 18 business robberies in Newport News, Hampton and York County. The robberies date back to 2010. Businesses police say he robbed include Family Dollar, Bojangle's and Advanced Auto.

Police found Carr after responding to a call that someone was possibly stealing items from cars.

Police say the investigation into the robberies is ongoing and that additional charges may be forthcoming. Carr was placed into custody of the Newport News City Jail. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney.
