MOUNT JACKSON, Va. -- An investigation into the death of a child at New Valley Properties began at around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Neighbors say the Shenandoah County Crime Scene Unit and Mount Jackson Police left the complex sometime at 3 p.m.

One person who lives nearby and wishes to remain anonymous wants to move.

"It still makes me feel like my kids are at threat, because my kids are outside all the time playing," said the woman.

That same woman says she called 911 three weeks ago because of things she heard coming from the same side of the apartment complex being investigated.

"It was a husky sounding man yelling and screaming at a child and the child was screaming and he was just telling it to shut up and he yelled a bunch of other crap and then next thing you know, the child went silent," said the woman who lives nearby the apartment under investigation.

One neighbor who says she would babysit the child says she thinks he may have died by accident after receiving vaccinations.

"That's the second baby that I've known that have died within a day or two after getting his shots and that is what I have to believe until I know any different," said the woman who frequently babysits the child.

A thirteen year old neighbor who says she played with the child often says he will be missed.

"If you made a face at him, he would laugh. He had the cutest laugh ever," said the 13-year-old.

We reached out to Mount Jackson Police several times today. So far, they have not responded with any updates.
