WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) -- The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating a suspicious fire that happened early last Thursday morning in the Shenandoah Heights neighborhood. On April 24 at about 5:20 a.m., both the Waynesboro fire and police departments responded to the 1000 block of Frye Street for a reported vehicle fire.

They found a 1988 Ford Bronco when they arrived, fully engulfed in flames and threatening the home where it was parked.

Officers evacuated the 59-year-old owner and his wife from their home as a precaution. Officers also evacuated neighbors from a nearby residence while firefighters extinguished the fire.

None of the structures were damaged, but the Bronco and another vehicle, a 1966 Ford pick-up truck, which was parked next to the Bronco, were destroyed.

There were no injuries.

Police detectives and the fire marshal suspect foul play in this fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Waynesboro Police Department at 540-942-6675 or Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-2017. Information given to Crime Stoppers may be given anonymously. Callers with information that lead to an arrest in this case are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
